The Black Caps faced a 621-day winless streak in Twenty20 Internationals at Eden Park, as they lost to the West Indies by seven runs in the first match of their five-match series. Despite a commendable effort from captain Mitchell Santner, who scored 55 not out, the team struggled, falling to 107/9 before a late rally with Jacob Duffy. The West Indies posted 164/6 after winning the toss and batting first, with Duffy taking 2/19 in a strong bowling performance. Ultimately, the Black Caps were unable to chase down the target, extending their disappointing record.
