Qatar suspends mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas

Qatar has decided to withdraw from its role as a mediator between Hamas and Israel due to the lack of good faith negotiations. The country had been mediating since the war in Gaza began in October 2023, brokering a temporary cease-fire and hostage release last year. Qatar also announced it will no longer host Hamas’ political office, citing the group’s refusal to release hostages. The U.S. supports Qatar’s decision, stating that Hamas leaders are no longer welcome in American partner countries due to their terrorist activities.
