Two Canterbury schools have closed due to asbestos concerns linked to Kmart kinetic sand products used in classrooms across New Zealand. Clearview Primary in Rolleston will be closed on Tuesday and potentially Wednesday after discovering a recalled Kmart product in one classroom. Additionally, four other classrooms utilized different brands or unmarked kinetic sand, prompting immediate professional testing. The school’s board confirmed there is no immediate risk to students or staff.
