Russian President Vladimir Putin is unlikely to be pleased with the latest news on the country’s birth rate, as official data shows the lowest rate since 1999 in the first six months of 2024. In June, births dropped by 6% to 98,600, marking a historic decline below 100,000 in a single month. The total number of children born in Russia in the first half of the year was reported as 599,600 by Rosstat, signaling a concerning trend for the country’s population growth.
