A 43-year-old inmate, Anthony Russell, has been charged with the murder of Ian Huntley, who was attacked with a metal bar at HMP Frankland on February 26 and died in a hospital on Saturday. Russell appeared via video link at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court and will be transferred to Newcastle Crown Court for a hearing on Thursday. Huntley was serving a life sentence for the 2002 murders of 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.
