A New Jersey man, Matthew Hertgen, accused of brutally killing his brother and attempting suicide in jail, faces murder charges for allegedly using a knife and golf club to kill his brother, possibly ripping out his eye. He is also charged with animal cruelty for setting the family cat on fire. Hertgen’s mental health is questioned, with a possible insanity plea being considered by his public defenders as a way to ensure he receives treatment in a mental health facility rather than prison.
