Missing miner found dead in West Virginia flooding

The body of missing miner Steve Lipscomb has been found in a flooded West Virginia coal mine, as announced by Gov. Patrick Morissey. Crews located Lipscomb’s body on Thursday morning after water levels in the Rolling Thunder Mine receded enough for safe exploration. He had been trapped about three-quarters of a mile into the mine since Saturday, prompting extensive search efforts that included pumping water and deploying dive teams. Morissey expressed his condolences, stating the news is “absolutely heartbreaking.”
