Prince William is reportedly not happy with the success of Prince Harry’s Invictus Games.
In the ABC News special “Prince Harry’s Mission: Life, Family and Invictus Games,” British journalist Robert Jobson claimed that the Duke of Sussex’s multi-sporting event has made William feel “jealous.”
“It’s been very successful since its inception,” Jobson said. “It comes with a high cost, and [Harry] has been able to raise funds consistently, which is impressive.”
“But I think there was a level of jealousy about its success,” he added. “I do believe that William was surprised by how successful it had become, the amount of funding it received, and the level of government involvement.”
The Games were established in 2014 by Harry while he was still working with his older brother and sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, as patrons of The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
Meghan Markle, 42, later became the fourth patron after marrying Harry in 2018.
However, the two brothers separated their offices in 2019 before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from senior royal duties and moved to California the following year.
More must-see royals coverage:
Harry, 39, has continued his work with the Invictus Games and recently participated in skeleton sledding to promote the upcoming Games in Whistler, Canada.
The renegade royal also discussed William’s envy in his 2023 memoir, “Spare.”
Harry claimed that the Prince of Wales, 41, “appeared supremely irritated” when he first heard of the idea for the Invictus Games, expressing concerns that it would drain funds from their foundation.
Harry argued that the complaints were “absurd” and clarified that the financing would come from the Endeavor Fund, a branch he created specifically for the rehabilitation of veterans, as well as donors.
He attributed William’s lackluster response to their “rivalry.”
He wrote, “I covered my eyes with my hands. Had we not overcome that? All that talk about the Heir versus the spare? Weren’t we too old for that tiresome, childish dynamic?
“He was married and expecting a baby,” Harry continued. “Meanwhile, I would order food alone and wash dishes in front of the sink. My father’s sink! I still lived with my dad, King Charles III. The game is over, man. You win.”
In a 2023 interview, Harry admitted that “there has always been this competition between us, strangely.”
“I think it really plays into or is always played by the heir and spare labels,” he said.
