Prep work for AUKUS subs kicks off marking ‘major milestone’

Key players in Australia’s AUKUS submarine program, the Australian Submarine Corporation (ASC) and BAE Systems, have initiated preparation work by forming a joint venture agreement to plan and schedule the SSN-AUKUS build program. This milestone paves the way for the construction of up to five nuclear-powered submarines at Osborne Naval Shipyard in Adelaide, with the first expected by the early 2040s. Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles highlighted the significance of this progress, emphasizing the project’s contribution to Australia’s national security and industrial base through workforce development and supply chain enhancement efforts.
