Police in B.C.’s Sunshine Coast are investigating the deliberate vandalism of about 70 fir trees in Powell River’s old golf course lands, reported on November 26. The trees were cut around their bases, likely with a chainsaw, and are expected to die within the year. Kevin Clarkson, the city’s parks and facilities manager, emphasized the ecological and community value of the older-growth Douglas firs. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
