On the eve of the Synod on Synodality, Pope Francis oversaw a penitence ceremony at the Vatican where Cardinals asked for forgiveness for sins against the environment, indigenous peoples, migrants, abuse, poverty, using doctrine as “stones”, and lack of synodality. Francis himself penned the petitions for forgiveness. The ceremony took place in St. Peter’s Basilica and aimed to address various societal issues and promote reconciliation.
