Jerome Booysen, the alleged leader of the Sexy Boys gang, was the victim of an armed robbery at his Bellville South home while he was in court facing murder charges. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when a group of armed men entered his property, tied up his domestic worker, and stole jewellery, cash, and designer clothing. Police confirmed that the domestic worker was unharmed, and no arrests have been made. Booysen stated that the suspects appeared to know he was not home, and they also took the CCTV control box, hindering immediate investigations. He expressed relief that no one was injured during the incident, which he described as being carried out by seven men who allegedly posed as police officers.

Why It Matters

The robbery highlights ongoing issues of violence and crime in South Africa, particularly in relation to organized crime and gang activity. Jerome Booysen is currently on trial for the murder of Brian Wainstein, a notorious figure in the drug trade, and has faced multiple threats to his life, with several co-accused in his case recently killed. The incident underscores the risks faced by individuals involved in high-profile criminal cases, as well as the challenges law enforcement faces in addressing gang-related violence. The ongoing investigation into the robbery may reveal more about the connections between organized crime and violent crime rates in the region.
