Plane engine fails after takeoff, makes emergency landing

Passengers on an Arik Air Boeing 737-7GL experienced a terrifying moment when the left engine exploded shortly after takeoff from Lagos to Port Harcourt, necessitating an emergency landing in Benin. The flight crew heard a loud bang and followed emergency protocols, landing safely with no reported injuries among the 80 passengers. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau is investigating the incident, which they described as an “in-flight engine anomaly.” Arik Air has apologized to affected passengers and is cooperating with authorities to determine the cause of the explosion.
