Scotland Yard marksman C12, who shot innocent electrician Jean Charles de Menezes dead in a case of mistaken identity in 2005, has spoken out for the first time. C12 believed Menezes was a threat and felt he had to take the shot to prevent a possible explosion. The former officer described the traumatic experience and the aftermath, revealing that he and his colleagues were not allowed to change clothes or shower for hours after the shooting. Menezes had been wrongly identified as failed bomber Hussain Osman, and the botched operation remains a haunting memory for C12.
