Philippines alleges China used cyanide to poison atoll in South China Sea

The Philippines has detected cyanide on Chinese fishing boats near the disputed Second Thomas Shoal in the South China Sea, raising concerns over potential sabotage to local fish populations and the reef supporting a grounded Philippine warship. National Security Council spokesperson Cornelio Valencia emphasized that the use of cyanide poses risks to marine life and the stability of the vessel. In response, China dismissed the accusations as unfounded, claiming the Philippines illegally harassed its fishing boats.
