A crane rollover in Leeming has caused significant traffic disruptions, resulting in a road closure that continues to affect commuters on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 3 PM on Tuesday when a five-axle Liebherr crane, weighing 60 tonnes, tipped over while attempting to navigate a roundabout to access Roe Highway. The 63-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by St John Ambulance. Both directions of Karel Avenue remain blocked between Roe Highway and Farrington Road, with the eastbound exit to Karel Avenue also closed. Another crane will be necessary to recover the overturned vehicle. Main Roads WA has advised commuters to seek alternative routes due to heavy congestion in the area.

Why It Matters

Crane rollovers are significant incidents that can lead to major traffic disruptions and safety concerns. Such accidents highlight the challenges of operating large machinery on public roads, particularly in urban settings where space is limited. In recent years, similar incidents have prompted discussions on improving safety regulations for heavy vehicle operations. The ongoing impact on traffic patterns and commuter safety underscores the importance of effective management of road closures and timely recovery efforts to minimize disruption.
