A 15-year-old girl is in critical condition after being struck by a car in Malaga on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 5:20 PM when she stepped out from behind a bus onto Beach Road, resulting in a collision that threw her more than 25 meters. Witnesses, including friends, described the scene as shocking, with one bystander recounting hearing a loud bang before seeing the girl roll forward. Emergency services arrived quickly, transporting her to Royal Perth Hospital, where she remains in the Intensive Care Unit. Police are currently investigating the accident and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information.

Why It Matters

Traffic accidents involving pedestrians, especially children, highlight ongoing concerns about road safety and awareness near bus stops. Statistics show that pedestrian injuries can lead to severe consequences, particularly in urban areas where traffic volume is high. In recent years, there has been a push for improved safety measures, such as better signage and traffic calming initiatives, to protect vulnerable road users. Incidents like this emphasize the need for continued advocacy for safer streets to prevent future tragedies.
