Over 230,000 Afghans left Iran in June ahead of return deadline: IOM

In June, over 230,000 Afghans returned from Iran, primarily due to increased deportations ahead of a July 6 deadline set by Tehran, with 70% of the 691,049 returns since January being forced. The influx of returnees, many of whom are families facing poverty and unemployment in Afghanistan, has strained resources as the Taliban government seeks a coordinated approach for their reintegration amidst severe international aid cuts.
