Ousted Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad issues his first statement since leaving the country

Ousted Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad planned to continue fighting rebel forces in the country until Russia evacuated him, as per a statement attributed to him. Assad stated that his departure was not premeditated and occurred on the day rebels entered Damascus, forcing him to relocate to Lattakia with Russian allies. Following the fall of Damascus, Assad was evacuated to Russia due to intense drone strikes, marking the end of his regime and the release of thousands of prisoners by rebel forces.
