One of the screenwriters of the Oscar-nominated film “It Was Just An Accident,” Mehdi Mahmoudian, was arrested in Tehran after condemning Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s regime. The film, inspired by director Jafar Panahi’s prison experience, is up for awards at the upcoming Academy Awards. Panahi, who also criticized the regime, expressed outrage over Mahmoudian’s arrest, calling him a moral pillar. Despite facing imprisonment himself, Panahi plans to return to Iran and has denounced the violent crackdown on protesters by the government.
