OpenAI is set to implement significant changes for users of its free and Go tiers on ChatGPT. Starting next week, these users will enjoy unlimited text chats without the current rate limits that restrict frequent use. However, limits will still apply to messages that include file uploads and images. Additionally, OpenAI will introduce a new “Think” button to enhance the reasoning capabilities for users tackling complex questions. Furthermore, the default AI model for these tiers will be upgraded to the latest version, GPT-5.6 Luna. For Plus and Pro subscribers, the GPT-5.6 Sol model will be updated to improve factual accuracy, providing more reliable and concise responses. This update will also feature a slider allowing users to adjust the depth of thought put into the answers, available from Thursday.

Why It Matters

OpenAI’s decision to remove rate limits for its free-tier users signifies a commitment to enhancing accessibility and user engagement with AI technology. The introduction of the “Think” button and model upgrades reflects ongoing advancements in AI capabilities, emphasizing the importance of providing users with more reliable and efficient tools. Historically, OpenAI has focused on improving its models to reduce inaccuracies and enhance user experience, aligning with broader industry trends aimed at making AI more user-friendly and effective for various applications. The changes are expected to foster greater interaction and experimentation among users, potentially leading to innovative uses of the technology.
