Ontario taxpayers face K bill for caring for 55 poodles
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A Hamilton woman, Alina Vernigorova, had 58 dogs, including 55 miniature poodles, seized from her unsanitary home last July, resulting in a care bill of $108,928.64, which was reduced to $10,000 after her appeal citing financial hardship and mental health issues. The Animal Welfare Service found deplorable conditions, including lack of food and water for the dogs. Despite acknowledging some costs were necessary, the board noted Vernigorova failed to seek financial assistance programs. She previously spent $3,000 monthly on premium dog food but did not spay or neuter the dogs due to costs.
