Mining in Ontario’s Ring of Fire Advances Without Official Fast-Tracking

The Ring of Fire mining development in Northern Ontario is moving forward, with Premier Doug Ford announcing at a Toronto mining conference that essential access roads will be constructed five years ahead of schedule. This project has support from the Webequie and Marten Falls First Nations, although 13 other First Nations, including Neskantaga, have raised concerns and requested a federal environmental review for the Eagles Nest mine. While the federal Impact Assessment Agency declined this review, it acknowledged the efforts to minimize environmental impact.
