Ontario cities are considering implementing bylaws to prohibit protests near schools and places of worship following recent violent demonstrations outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton. Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown plans to bring a motion to city council to consider such a bylaw after three people were arrested during a demonstration by Sikh separatists. In Vaughan, city council has already approved a bylaw in June to prevent “nuisance demonstrations” within 100 metres of vulnerable social infrastructure like schools and hospitals.
