A guard at a construction site near the 2026 Winter Olympic venue in Cortina d’Ampezzo died during an overnight shift, with temperatures dropping to minus 12 degrees Celsius. Italy’s Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini has called for an investigation into the 55-year-old worker’s death, which is reported to be due to a heart attack. The construction site was not under the oversight of the governmental company Simico, which expressed condolences. Milan Cortina organizers confirmed the death was of natural causes and are awaiting further investigation results.
