The Dawkah valley in Oman’s Dhofar region is renowned for its frankincense trees, often referred to as “white gold,” with around 5,000 trees producing the precious resin used in perfumes and traditional medicine. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, the valley is managed by luxury perfume-maker Amouage, which emphasizes sustainable harvesting and community involvement while preserving this invaluable resource.
