A New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) worker was killed and two others injured following an explosion on the city-owned sewage transport vessel, Hunts Point, in the Hudson River on Saturday morning. The explosion occurred around 10:30 a.m. while the vessel was docked at the North River Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility; the cause remains under investigation. The deceased, a dedicated 33-year veteran of the DEP, was blown from the boat by the force of the explosion, while one injured employee was hospitalized and another refused treatment.
