The military released data revealing that 4,240 transgender troops, or 0.2% of the 2 million in uniform, have gender dysphoria, a much smaller number than previous estimates of 15,000. The Trump administration’s policies bar trans troops from serving, citing disruption and high medical costs, with $52 million spent on gender-affirming care since 2015. The Pentagon provided these figures after a federal judge ordered data release in response to a lawsuit filed by trans service members challenging the policies.
