Thousands of amputees in Gaza are facing challenges in accessing necessary care and struggling with basic mobility, as Israel’s restrictions on medical aid continue to impact the region. Humanity & Inclusion UK has raised concerns about the unprecedented levels of amputations carried out in Gaza during the conflict, with reports indicating up to 10 children per day undergoing leg amputations. Despite a ceasefire agreement signed in October 2025, conditions remain dire due to the blocking of humanitarian aid by Israel, leading to a shortage of critical components for prosthetics and limited international specialist training for local teams. The casualty rate continues to rise, with over 700 Palestinians killed and 2,000 injured since the ceasefire.
Why It Matters
The situation in Gaza highlights the urgent need for improved access to medical care and humanitarian aid for thousands of amputees facing mobility challenges. With restrictions on materials and expertise, the number of amputees and the severity of their conditions are expected to increase, further straining an already overwhelmed healthcare system. The ongoing conflict and lack of international support exacerbate the crisis, emphasizing the critical importance of addressing the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations in the region.
