Nuclear weapons spending reaches record high of $119 billion

Global spending on nuclear weapons reached a record $119 billion in 2025, with an increase of $16.8 billion from the previous year, as reported by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. The United States led expenditures at approximately $69.2 billion, followed by China, the United Kingdom, Russia, and France. ICAN highlighted that nuclear states plan to maintain their arsenals for decades, despite international disarmament commitments, and called attention to the contradiction of high military spending amid reduced investment in global welfare.
