Nuclear power plant forced to shut down after jellyfish infestation

The Gravelines nuclear power plant in northern France was fully shut down on August 11, 2025, due to a significant influx of jellyfish clogging its cooling system’s pumping stations. While four of its six units halted operations, EDF confirmed that safety measures were intact and that staff were working to clear the jellyfish before restarting the reactors.
