Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un agreed to a mutual defense pact last year. UK intelligence reports that North Korea has suffered over 5,000 casualties in the Ukraine war, with a third killed in action while fighting for Russia. Despite recent territorial gains, Ukraine still maintains a foothold in the region, as the US continues efforts to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
