North Carolina to override Dem veto calling for cooperation with ICE while Trump calls for agency reform

Despite media backlash over President-elect Trump’s Cabinet picks, including former ICE chief Tom Homan’s appointment as border czar, GOP North Carolina legislators are set to overrule Gov. Roy Cooper’s block on legislation mandating local law enforcement agencies to cooperate with ICE. The legislation, which has been stalled for five years, includes an ICE provision and additional funds for school vouchers, prompting criticism from Cooper and the ACLU for being unconstitutional and circumventing local authority. The bill, HB10, is expected to be taken up for a veto override vote soon.
