Nigeria’s electricity generation has surged by 30% this week, nearing a peak of 6,000 MW due to upgrades in the country’s aging power infrastructure. Despite a capacity of 13,000 MW, outdated transmission lines have limited supply, leading to reliance on costly generators. The Siemens-led modernization project, funded by the AfDB and other sources, aims to surpass 10,000 MW by 2026 through the commissioning of new transformers and reinforcement of transmission lines.
