Nigeria has been admitted as a “partner country” of the BRICS bloc of developing economies, joining Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan. The bloc, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, aims to counterbalance the Group of Seven leading industrialized nations and has added other countries like Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia. President-elect Donald Trump has threatened 100% tariffs against BRICS if they undermine the U.S. dollar, prompting the bloc to voice commitment to introducing an alternative payment system.
