New ministerial order to limit international student numbers

A government directive to restrict international student numbers in the tertiary education sector has caused division, with the Group of Eight criticizing the move as replacing one flawed process with another. However, other parts of the sector have praised the decision, with Education Minister Jason Clare stating it will benefit regional and suburban universities and TAFEs. The new directive aims to create a fairer system for all universities and address the impact on education providers, with limited impact expected on migration measures as new arrivals decline but migrants leave at a slower rate than anticipated.
