Neo-Nazi sentenced for gun attack plot against Tesco colleagues

A 22-year-old neo-Nazi, Alfie Coleman, has been sentenced to 13-and-a-half years in prison for planning a mass shooting. Coleman, who created a ‘kill list’ of individuals he deemed ‘race traitors’, sought to acquire firearms, including a Skorpion submachine gun and an AK47, through an undercover MI5 operation. He was arrested in September 2023 after meeting an undercover officer to purchase a Makarov pistol and ammunition, having previously expressed intentions to attack a mosque and political figures. The Old Bailey court described his views as ‘virulently racist’ and labeled him a ‘dangerous offender’. In addition to his prison term, Coleman will serve an extended five-year licence period after his release.

Why It Matters

Coleman’s case highlights the growing concern over domestic terrorism linked to far-right extremism in the UK. Authorities have reported an increase in radicalization among young individuals, often facilitated by online extremist communities. The investigation into Coleman revealed a troubling trend, as he had been involved in extreme right-wing groups since the age of 14, illustrating the need for vigilance and early intervention in preventing youth radicalization. This incident underscores the collaborative efforts between law enforcement and intelligence agencies, such as MI5, in countering terrorism threats and protecting public safety.
