Myanmar military conducts elections during civil war

Polls have opened in 100 townships across Myanmar for the second phase of general elections, amidst a civil war and allegations of legitimizing military rule. The first phase saw a 52 percent turnout, with ongoing conflict causing some areas to not participate. The military claims a landslide victory, with the USDP winning over 80 percent of seats. The UN and human rights groups have criticized the elections as a sham, with laws punishing criticism with up to 10 years in prison and over 22,000 political prisoners currently detained in Myanmar.
