In January 2012, the author’s husband Ronnie Loza passed away at the age of 44 after a blood clot from his leg traveled to his heart. Left as a 41-year-old widow with two sons, aged 18 and 9, she and her youngest son Steven attended grief groups for support. However, after a year and a half, the center abruptly closed without notice, leaving them without the resources they had come to rely on.
