A hiker who continued to ascend California’s Mount Whitney after his companion turned back has been found dead, as reported by the Inyo County Search and Rescue team. The two hikers began their climb late Saturday, and when one turned back near 12,500 feet, the other proceeded alone. After the overdue hiker was reported missing, a search operation led to the discovery of his body on the mountain’s north face. SAR emphasized the dangers of winter ascents and urged climbers to heed safety concerns and recognize when to turn back to avoid fatalities.
