More than 5,300 individuals, including nationals from China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Brazil, remain trapped in online scam centers in Myanmar, according to a human rights group. These centers, controlled by the Myanmar Democratic Karen Buddhist Army militia, continue to perpetrate online fraud and human trafficking despite a multinational crackdown. Victims, many trafficked and subjected to severe abuse, often face disbelief and stigmatization instead of support and protection.
