Monica Barbaro reached out to folk legend Joan Baez before portraying her in ‘A Complete Unknown’, arranging a covert meeting to seek her blessing for the role. Director James Mangold and co-writer Jay Cocks took creative license in the Bob Dylan biopic, depicting Baez and Dylan singing together on stage at the Newport Folk Festival, a scenario that did not occur in real life. Barbaro worked closely with vocal coach Eric Vetro to capture Baez’s iconic vocal qualities, ensuring her portrayal was authentic and believable.
