Sydney NYE paused to honor Bondi victims

Sydney welcomed the New Year with a spectacular fireworks display on Sydney Harbour, featuring over 40,000 pyrotechnic effects, after observing a silent “moment of unity” commemorating the Bondi Beach terror attacks that claimed 15 lives. The celebration, largely incident-free with around 40 arrests, included a moment of reflection led by Sydney’s Lord Mayor. Fireworks also lit up Melbourne and Adelaide, while Wollongong canceled its show due to dangerous swells. The night concluded with a projected image of a blue menorah on the Harbour Bridge, symbolizing hope and solidarity.
