MOL in vessel tie-up for domestic floating wind sector

Japanese shipping giant Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has partnered with Fukada Salvage & Marine Works to collaborate on transportation and installation vessels for floating offshore wind turbines, aiming to establish joint ownership and operation systems and a procurement framework for mooring systems. The move comes as Japan plans to deploy 10 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and 30-45 GW by 2040, including floating wind, to address limited shallow coastal areas and boost the local supply chain. MOL has been expanding its offshore wind business in Asia, while Fukada has diversified into towing and installation work for the domestic floating offshore wind market, supporting power generation companies to ease procurement risks.
