One of the Rhesus monkeys that escaped after a truck overturned in Mississippi was shot by Jessica Bond Ferguson, who feared for her children’s safety. The incident occurred near Heidelberg, where she spotted the monkey in her yard and, after being warned about potential diseases, shot it. Most of the 21 monkeys were killed in the crash, and authorities confirmed the monkeys were pathogen-free despite initial concerns. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the accident’s cause.
