Mississippi’s Longest-Serving Death Row Inmate Scheduled for Execution

Richard Gerald Jordan, Mississippi’s longest-serving death row inmate, is set to be executed on June 25, following a ruling by the state Supreme Court. Jordan, 78, was sentenced to death in 1976 for the kidnapping and murder of Edwina Marter and has exhausted all appeals. The ruling did not specify the execution method, which could include lethal injection, nitrogen gas, electrocution, or firing squad, marking Mississippi’s first execution since December 2022.
