A 12-year-old boy narrowly escaped serious injury when a lorry dragged him underneath after he was knocked to the ground in Firminopolis, Brazil, on August 5. The incident, captured on CCTV, shows the boy waiting to cross the street with his bicycle when the lorry turned the corner, pushing him down onto the road. Miraculously, the vehicle’s wheels only grazed him, allowing him to roll free and stand up moments later. Bystanders from a nearby pharmacy provided first aid before he was taken to Hospital Santa Gemma, where doctors found he had a fractured wrist and grazed elbow. The lorry driver, unaware of the collision due to a blind spot, later reached out to offer assistance to the boy’s family and support for his medical expenses.

Why It Matters

This incident underscores the critical importance of road safety, particularly for pedestrians and cyclists in urban areas. Traffic accidents involving large vehicles and vulnerable road users often lead to severe injuries or fatalities. In Brazil, traffic accidents are a significant public health concern, with thousands of fatalities reported annually. This case highlights the need for increased awareness and safety measures, such as improved signage, driver education, and the implementation of safety technology in vehicles to protect pedestrians and cyclists.
