Chris Jones reports from Milan.
Steven Dubois won gold in the men’s 500-metre short track final at Milano Cortina 2026, finishing ahead of fellow Canadian William Dandjinou, who was penalized for a failure to give way, dropping from fourth to fifth. The women’s 3,000-metre relay team secured bronze, with Courtney Sarault becoming the first Canadian short track speed skater to earn four medals in a single Olympics. Dubois’s victory, achieved with a risky strategy of taking the lead early, marked his second gold and added to Canada’s total of five medals in short track events. Both Dubois and Dandjinou expressed mixed emotions, celebrating teamwork while reflecting on individual aspirations.
