An 11-year-old boy named Michael Judge was tragically killed after being struck by a car while riding his scooter in Mandurah on April 6. Michael, who was visiting a friend at Lakeside Villas, was hit by a blue Mazda sedan as he crossed Mandurah Terrace after riding down a steep driveway. His family described him as a “beloved son” and an “amazing brother” in a heartfelt online tribute. Despite urgent medical assistance from St John WA and an off-duty nurse who attempted to save him, Michael succumbed to his injuries at Peel Health Campus. The driver, a 46-year-old man, stopped at the scene and has not faced charges as investigations continue.

Why It Matters

Child pedestrian safety remains a pressing public concern, especially as more children engage in activities like riding scooters. According to data from various traffic safety organizations, pedestrian incidents involving children often lead to severe injuries or fatalities, highlighting the need for increased awareness and safety measures on busy roads. The tragic loss of young lives like Michael’s serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety education and the need for effective traffic management in residential areas, particularly where children are likely to be present.
