Meta introduces Llama 4 with two new AI models available now, and two more on the way

Meta has released the first two models from its multimodal Llama 4 suite: LLama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick, with Maverick excelling at image and text understanding for general use cases and Scout tackling tasks like multi-document summarization. The company also introduced the upcoming Behemoth model and teased the fourth model, LLama 4 Reasoning, to be announced soon. Both Maverick and Scout are available for download now and have been added to Meta AI for platforms like WhatsApp and Messenger. Scout has 17 billion active parameters while Maverick has 17 billion active parameters with 128 experts, outperforming competitors like GPT-4o and Gemini 2.0. The upcoming Behemoth model is still training but is anticipated to be the highest performing base model with 288 billion active parameters.
